ASPs Hit the Wireless Bull’s Eye

Organizations walking the path to wireless capabilities must be careful where they step, for the path is riddled with land mines. With their eyes on the bottom line and a competitive strategy, wise CEOs seek solutions that help to avoid the hazards. Many are turning to wireless application service providers (wASPs). It’s the ideal solution to get to market faster and avoid investing in infrastructure that will evolve as the wireless technology changes.

ASP SensCom is an amalgamation of people from the financial services industry (the early adopters of wireless) as well as from the wireless industry. For a client that is a bank that would like to offer wireless bill payment to its account holders, for example, SensCom can wirelessly enable the financial institution in a few days. For SensCom’s minimal integration fee and the monthly subscription, the bank is provided a turnkey solution and can offer the service to its customers almost immediately.

SensCom has created standardized applications that can be easily customized for a particular financial institution. This ASP goes even further than providing enablement of wireless technology. The company also provides a template marketing program that financial institution clients can use in marketing the new wireless services to its customers. SensCom’s clients thus avoid having to launch a wireless marketing program and materials. “A lot of our customers appreciate that because they don’t necessarily have the desire or even the capability to put together a wireless marketing program. It’s still a nascent market,” says Randy Salo, SensCom’s chief technology officer.

Although the company’s first marketed solution is targeted specifically to financial institutions, it has built a scalable platform that can allow it to provide similar offerings to other verticals in the future.

In response to the market’s greater level of interest for B2E (business to employee) capabilities for field service technicians, sales force, wireless LANs, etc, SensCom recently executed a strategic alliance agreement with Wireless Knowledge. A joint venture between Qualcomm and Microsoft, Wireless Knowledge is focused on providing solutions for enterprises to use internally for extending their corporate intelligence wirelessly to their employees.
